Themis, a Legal Agent-based ITS

چکیده
As an interesting example of ill-defined domain, Law domain has been challenged AI-ED system researchers. In this context, Law students have little chance to deal with realistic situations, requiring to apply real cases, rules, and different viewpoints. To address these issues, we introduce an agent-based Intelligent Tutoring System (ITS) applied to the mentioned domain. Then, we defined an agent-based architecture to support multiple views of domain knowledge, improving the quality of student-ITS interactions and the learning success of the students. Each tutoring agent from the system contains a hybrid knowledge-based system that combines Case-Based Reasoning (CBR) and Rule-Based Reasoning (RBR). In addition, each agent adopts the Reinforcement Learning Algorithm aiming at identifying the best pedagogical strategy by considering the student profile. This paper focuses on both architecture and the mentioned Artificial Intelligence techniques into a Legal System. A case study to demonstrate the feasibility of the system is presented.

Programmable Agent Perception in Intelligent Virtual Environments
In this paper, we propose a perception model for virtual agents based on a two -layered architecture. Each agent is equipped with a sensing mechanism that retrieves the objects in its field of view and stores them in its memory, and with a perception module that applies a set of rules on them and generates its beliefs. We propose a scripting language for defining such perception rules using con...
متن کاملHigh-resolution thermal inertia derived from the Thermal Emission Imaging System (THEMIS): Thermal model and applications
[1] Thermal inertia values at 100 m per pixel are determined using nighttime temperature data from the Thermal Emission Imaging System (THEMIS) on the Mars Odyssey spacecraft, producing the highest-resolution thermal inertia data set to date. THEMIS thermal inertia values have an overall accuracy of 20%, a precision of 10–15%, and are consistent with both Thermal Emission Spectrometer orbital a...
متن کاملTowards a Virtual Agent Control Architecture Using a Spatiotemporal Data Management Framework
Virtual Agents are autonomous embodied entities in virtual environments that look and behave like living organisms. They are usually equipped with sensors that read the state of the environment and effectors that apply actions on other entities. Believable agent behavior requires nonomniscience: each agent should contain its own representation of the environment based on its sensing abilities a...
متن کاملRule-Based Systems Combining AI Techniques into a Legal Agent-based Intelligent Tutoring System
Computer based learning gets more and more important in higher education. Particularly, in Legal domain, students have little chance to deal with realistic situations. One way to alleviate this problem is to provide Law students with real cases, rules and different viewpoints of which a given body of knowledge is often recognized as important to their successful learning. We propose a novel app...
متن کاملDistributions and Characteristics of Martian Central Pit Craters
Introduction: Impact craters containing central pits are rare on dry bodies like the Moon but common on Mars and the icy moons of the outer solar system. Impact into and vaporization of subsurface volatiles is the probable cause of central pit formation [1, 2]. Vi-king-based studies of central pit craters on Mars found regional distributions of these craters, with an apparent preference for the...
